Thank You

If I could write a thousand thank you’s
on sheets of paper your favourite color,
long enough to tie a bow around the earth,
it would not be enough.

If I could blow a kazillion kisses
stretching across the stars and planets and to eternity and back,
it wouldn’t be enough.

Or if I could make you a million meals
of your favourite food,
or grow your favourite flowers,
or cobble a perfect pair of shoes,
it would still not be enough.

None of this would be enough
to express my thanks,
and appreciation,
and love,
for your being there with me.

When I stood shaking in the night,
you steadied me.
Your presence allowed me to sleep calmly,
undisturbed.
When I opened my eyes,
your eyes,
bright and clear,
greeted mine.
Your presence marked the beginning of each day
and each day’s end,
and as each day’s night
turned into dawning day,
you were there.
Thank you.

  1. Giving thanks for anything, at any time, in any place, is an act of generosity. Let us continue to follow your example, Larry, of saying THANK YOU more often than not. And THANK YOU for this poem. There is power in poetry and prayer.

  2. A wonderful poem! Your energy of appreciation is palpable. I’m curious, have the person you wrote this poem for read it yet? Is it who I think it is? 😀
