Our relationship
wasn’t a smartly made
sailor’s knot,
a beautifully coiled,
intricate and interwoven pattern
that graced a polished wooden deck
and could easily be undone with one,
well placed tug by a knowing hand.
It was a twisted tangled mess
of contradictions and unspoken tensions,
of siblings bound by blood
but out of sync and separated
by tragedy and distance and
too many years.
An enigma,
that sits in a heap in the corner,
calling to be untied.
