View outside our window

I.
How,
exactly how
did I ever get transported
here,
where sunshine
is bright, bright, blinding white,
ocean
is turquoise and calm and content,
sky
is brilliant, beaming blue,
and an orange tree
stands cheerfully outside the window?
I,
am a video afterimage
slowly catching my body,
as my body slowly catches the rhythm of Portuguese time,
marveling,
in the space between.

II.
Who knew,
tuna could be sliced from dark hunks of meat,
steaks piled one on the other on the other,
and not given birth by the supermarket freezer
into vacuum sealed packs?
Who knew,
pastries were rolled and filled one at a time,
and not machine measured on automated assemblies in big batch bakeries?
Who knew,
cork came from trees,
and not pressed and processed
with efficiency and economy?
Who knew?

  1. To be steeped in old beauty, baked in the warm sun and have your whole being filled with rest, relaxation and the joys an old world culture is such a joy isn’t it? Enjoy your adventure!!

  2. Sounds amazing. Enjoy! My mouth was watering just thinking about the fresh tuna and hand made pastries .

  3. Thanks, Larry, for a vivid description of the sky, ocean and sunshine at your current vacation space. And then there is the meat. Plus the pastries. Must be wonderful. Keep enjoying.
