Look at me!
I am multitasking
and quite unpredictably,
filled with joy and glee —
baking bread, posting poems,
and cutting crudities.
For one who’s always been
‘one-thing-at-a-time’, and therein
living at a slow reflective pace,
present in each moment
and in each and every space,
this is
a wild ride down the roller coaster’s face,
sitting at the front, ready to take the brunt,
knuckles white as it takes to flight,
just before the turn.
And filled with terror and elation,
I am part of fast-paced-nation,
being in the zone while tempting catastrophe’s flirtation,
flying sidelong sideways,
and crossing the finish line in a blazing blaze,
until,
the bread is baked,
the poem is posted,
and the veggies have long been roasted.
And like a hangover hanging on,
way past the broken dawn,
my head is spinning, blood is thinning,
for having past my peak,
I will sleep at least a week,
until,
it’s not just ‘one-thing-at-a-time’
but something more sublime —
doing nothing all at once.
I especially liked how you compared multitasking to being on a roller coaster ride…filled with terror and elation.
