The Smell of New Bicycle Tires

Unscheduled hours of summer,
days stretching endlessly ahead,
bonds of childhood pals.
Flitting in and out of parents’ reach,
roams to undiscovered places,
trips to beach and pool.
Movies with happy endings,
unlocked doors,
kind old men.
Make believe battles with pretend guns,
sword fights with sticks,
gunshots that shed no blood.
Right or wrong,
good or bad,
happy or sad.

  1. You beckon to the days of my childhood – fond and cherished that now reside in the fading memories of this man – thank you Larry.
