The Months Of Waiting

These months
are now the longest months,
as we hibernate in covid’s cave
waiting for the power of the sun
to end this Arctic wave.
A time when shadows first fade,
then disappear,
color becomes dull grey and brown,
and wind will howl and not lie down.
A time when heartbeats slow,
breaths become shallow whispers
we can hardly hear,
and feet move
to the most lethargic rhythms of the year.
These are the months
where time
is waiting to be filled,
we wait in suspended animation
for color to change to green,
and all of us await our turn
for something as yet unseen.
We wait until the day we can emerge
and roam the land,
and hug the fellow members of our band.
These are the months of waiting.

  1. Another excellent piece, sums up the feeling of the season totally. Covid only adds to the tendancy to be a hermit. Spring will come! Ricky
