All Things British

E now subscribes to Brit Box TV,
enthralled as she takes her afternoon tea.
There are detectives detecting who are nattily dressed,
with their wit and their reason they bring in suspects.
They often chase down a guy name of Nick,
for a watch or a wallet from a pocket that’s picked.
While cozy and comfy and watching a show,
she’ll shout something out, only someone from Britain would know.
In proper Queen’s English she’ll yell, Bloody good,
as a bad guy gets his, in his neighbourhood.
Her accent will drift to a brogue or a burr,
depending on who, is answering, Yes sir.
In the mornings she likes to spread marmite on toast,
and wonders aloud about having some roast.
She often calls, bagsy, for the last piece of pie,
leaving me gobsmacked — I have no notion why!
She tells me to budge up so we can chinwag,
then says something’s codswallop, as I almost gag.
But this is the part I do not understand,
my head, it will spin, and then will expand,
for after explaining the steps to get a task done,
she says, Bob’s your uncle, as though somethings been won.
I try to explain, I don’t have an uncle named Bob,
and is he related to that Nick who will rob?
It’s all too confusing, this language of E,
the lingo of Brits, as seen on TV.
So while she’s involved with the chasing of crooks,
I just curl up with some Canadian books.

  1. Larry, I haven’t heard a tale so touching in donkeys years. Are you suggesting the cheeky little Acadienne has thrown a spanner into the works by opting for Brit Box over an option as lovely as you? You should be chuffed to bits that you can fully devote yourself to Canadian literary works without interruption! I fancy though, that a bloke like you who’s bright as a brass button, should avoid allowing the lush little Acadienne to get further under your skin. If you you continue to have issues, just call your mates and we’ll meet at the local for a pint! Ron

  2. Really enjoyed the post ‘All Things British”.

I love British tv shows. They are so well done. I have been very tempted to subscribe to Brit Box Tv. I know I would become completely “hooked.”
