Welcome To Our Place

Welcome to our condo
for a festive dinner night.
But first we have some questions,
we need to ask, alright?

They’re teensy, weensy questions,
to see if there’s some trouble,
before we let you enter,
and be inside our bubble.

Is your temperature arising?
Are you feeling quite unwell?
Problems with your breathing?
Lost your taste or smell?

Have you had your double doses?
When did you get the shot?
Was it Pfizer or Moderna,
or mix and match you got?

Have you been on any airplanes,
or travelled out of town?
Have you gone by car upriver,
or shopping all around?

Now here’s the list of places,
exposures for today.
Take time to look them over,
it’s not a long array.

So what is that you’re saying?
There’s some questions of your own?
No, there isn’t any problem—
there’s nothing we’ll disown.

Have we sanitized the surface,
so no germs are still alive?
Yes, we’ve sprayed and wiped the counters,
and nothing could survive.

Do we wash our hands thrice daily?
Is that what you just said?
Yes, we scrub our paws a plenty,
and rub them ’til they’re red.

And what about our distance
and wearing masks you say?
Of course we’re separated—
at least ten feet away.

So now that we’ve both checked,
there’s very little chance.
Come in and please be seated,
it’s a comfy circumstance.

That sound that you are hearing?
Oh, it’s just my little moan.
You notice I am sighing?
Yes, all this makes me groan.

Today it is the standard,
and normal don’t you see.
Everyone has been infected,
by a world of OCD.

We get anxious with a handshake,
or when someone’s near our face.
We are on high alert now,
when someone’s in our space.

And to reassure ourselves,
we’ve got the rapid test.
A layer of protection,
to add to all the rest.

One day it may be over,
the virus dead and gone.
But the question to consider,
is if we will move on.

Anxiety may linger,
and be our foe for life.
And which we’ll learn to manage,
though distant from our strife.

Living will have shifted,
for better and for worse.
And likely we’ll be different,
a blessing and a curse.
