The Rallying Call

When covid came
and gripped us all in fear,
and the government said to sanitize,
wear a mask, and don’t go near,
we didn’t take to the streets
to protest our liberty was lost,
we did our part and pulled our weight,
not for ourselves,
but to shield our neighbours from the fate.
We are New Brunswickers.

Now other people recognize
our numbers have been low,
but think it’s at our borders where
we’ve stemmed the tide and stopped the flow.
They’re missing something of who we are
that’s woven in the warp and woof and way of life.
For we are members
of a closely-knit community,
that pull together
through adversity.
We are New Brunswickers.

And with the vaccine rolling out
the end is now in sight,
let’s take pride in what we’ve done,
not slacken in our fight.
For this is something we can do
and though we’re tired of taking care,
let’s double down and elevate
until we breathe Spring’s air.
And when we see our numbers rise
and wonder what’s amiss,
we’ll just put out the rallying call,
Come on New Brunswickers.
Let’s do this!

  1. Wonderful capturing of who we really are and what we’re prepared to do when push comes to shove! No wonder we’re happy to live in this province….we’re teammates!
