Take One for the Team

Forget the fake news,
divergent views,
the changing scientific thought,
clutching hands that’s all for naught,
forget the protests and parades
of anti-maskers, anti-vaxers,
side effect exaggerators,
covid minimizers and deniers,
forget all that,
just put your arm out there
and take one for the team.
For the vaccine renews our belief,
allows us to let out
collective sighs of our relief,
gives us hope
that we can cope
and alleviates our darkest fears.
It allows a pause
to put away our chaos
and our cause,
to put down our books,
our phones, TV’s and good looks,
and set aside what we want,
what we need,
or what is due,
and be thankful for all we have,
and to God, for having brought us through.
It gives us space
to see blue sky replace the cloud,
feel warm air that melts the snow,
and hear the birds sing songs aloud.
We can look into the mirror and be carefree,
knowing we are more than what we see,
and look upon our loved ones
whose lives we share,
see the jobs we have,
the friends still there,
the health that was not lost.
And look on all of this at once
with gratitude,
for the day will come when we can soar,
when we can gather as before
and yet remember,
those here no more.
