Spring
is the season of reckoning,
revealing crumpled coffee cups,
faded fast food wrappers,
failed face masks,
and discarded dog dirt.
It is the time
when we are forced to face
the trash of our lives,
put out of sight,
having pretended it would disappear
under the cover of winter snow.
Spring reveals
promises made, but never kept,
secrets hidden, now exposed,
and energy faded, as fatigue finally catches up.
It is the time
when messy closets
tumble out onto newly cleaned wood floors,
when we reach into hidden corners
to clear out accumulated gunk,
and when shadows are lit by brilliant sun.
The time when we dust off
and sort through
things seldom used,
and make decisions
about how to reorder our lives.
Spring is the door
to another season.
Spring cleaning of our homes and for our souls.
