I must confess, with some distress,
I have become a weather wimp.
At the slightest suggestion,
when there’s not even yet a question
of a flurry or two or even just a few,
I batten down the hatches.
In other days or years,
when I would go to work with peers,
I used to brave the chillest cold,
drive the deepest snow,
and walk the wildest wind,
undeterred from daily rounds.
But now,
I watch the weather cast,
look out the window to see if sun will last,
and if there’s a hint of wind or rain or snow,
I hunker down,
dive deep into my jammies,
bury my body beneath my blankies,
take tea into my easy chair,
put on a tuque to cover up my hair,
and wait,
for it all to pass.
More than once or twice,
I’ve had an unlucky roll of dice,
and been caught out
by the sun that’s breaking through.
But what am I to do?
Just the sight of cloud through window shade,
seems to cast a shadow on my parade.
I can only hope,
that as the spring is on its way,
I’ll screw up my Canadian courage,
and, as they say,
take a page from a braver person’s book.
Love the sunshine we get in this neck of the woods.
Can’t wait for spring to come…sunshine and warmer days ahead.
